The Star of Food from the Earth
🌿 The Pillar of Legend: The Gift of Papatūānuku
Tupu-ā-nuku is the star associated with everything that grows within the soil. Her name comes from "Tupu" (to grow) and "Nuku" (short for Papatūānuku, the Earth Mother). She reminds us that the Earth is a giant pantry that provides for us, but only if we treat the soil with respect. In traditional times, if Tupu-ā-nuku shone brightly, the Tohunga (experts) knew it would be an excellent year for planting kūmara and rīwai (potatoes).
🔍 The Pillar of Connection: The Magic of Decomposition
The health of our food starts deep underground, where we cannot see. Tupu-ā-nuku represents the cycle of life where old plants turn into compost to feed new ones.
