Hine-Tūrama: The Lady of the Stars

Hine-Tūrama: The Lady of the Stars

The Origin of Light in the Night Sky

🌿 The Pillar of Legend: The Star Maker

Hine-Turama is the Atua associated with the stars and celestial light. She is often said to be the daughter of Tāne. Her name Turama means "to give light" or "to illuminate." She is the one who helps guide us through the darkness by placing "torches" (the stars) in the sky.

🔍 The Pillar of Connection: Guidance and Wonder

She represents curiosity and the vastness of the universe. She reminds us to look beyond our own world and wonder what else is out there.

  • In the Classroom: Perfect for lessons on Astronomy and Space.

  • Vision Link: Talk about how we use stars to find our way (navigation).

💡 The Pillar of Challenge: The "Ako" Activity

The Constellation Connect:

  1. Draw five dots on a piece of paper.

  2. The Goal: Connect them with lines to create your own "Star Shape." What would you name your constellation?
